Who am I?

This isn’t just my business—it’s a reflection of where I have been and what I believe in. I am here to create work that matters to you, led by you, but with a shared commitment to quality and inspiring visual work for your business or family. Or simply just for you!

About Vicky Steane - WHAT DO I DO?

I am Vicky Steane — an artist, illustrator and professional framer. I create work that’s at once detailed and joyful: intricate map collages, expansive murals, fine biro illustrations and illustrated children’s books (including the Little Robot Stories). My practice combines meticulous craft with playful storytelling, producing pieces that fit in a gallery, a child’s bedroom, or a thoughtful interior.

What I make

  • Collage maps: layered, hand-cut map collages that reimagine place and memory through texture, colour and found-paper detail.

  • Murals: large-scale, site-specific murals that transform public and private spaces with narrative and scale.

  • Biro illustrations: finely detailed pen drawings that balance precision with whimsy — perfect for prints, commissions and editorial work.

  • Children’s books: warm, imaginative picture books and short stories for young readers, notable for character-led narratives and charming illustration (Little Robot Stories).

  • Framing: bespoke, professional framing services informed by an artist’s eye — conservation-aware, colour-sensitive and tailored to enhance each work.

Who I work with

  • Collectors and private clients seeking original art or thoughtful commissions.

  • Galleries and public bodies commissioning murals or exhibitions.

  • Authors, publishers and editors needing illustration, layout or picture-book development.

  • Interior designers and architects integrating art into residential and commercial projects.

  • Anyone requiring expert framing — from conservation-grade solutions to creative display options.

What you can commission

  • Original collages and illustrations in a range of sizes.

  • Custom murals for interiors or exterior walls.

  • Bespoke children’s book illustration and layout.

  • Personalised map pieces, portraits or narrative scenes.

  • Framing packages: advice, design, conservation framing and installation.

What makes my work different

  • A blend of technical craft and storytelling: meticulous mark-making meets exuberant, accessible imagination.

  • A background in professional framing that informs presentation and longevity.

  • Versatility across formats: small, intimate drawings to sweeping murals and printed books.

  • A distinct visual voice that’s sophisticated, playful and refined — suitable for families, collectors and commercial projects alike.

How to commission or enquire

  • Tell me briefly what you have in mind: medium, size, location (for murals), and your timeline.

  • Share images or references if you have them, and your budget range.

  • I’ll respond with availability, a proposed approach and a clear quote or next steps.

I create art that tells stories, decorates spaces and stands the test of time — thoughtfully made and beautifully presented.

I also spend my time mixing stories, poems, and original artwork to explore positive thoughts, ideas, and concepts about the world around us. Some of these concepts and ideas I not only painted, but also turned into children's books of illustrated robot art for kids and collectors. Each book is designed to inspire creativity and contains a moral message.

Book number 1 “There Was A Little Robot” is now available to download online and in select bookstores.

To celebrate the book launch, Little Robot Stories now has a brand new interactive website designed to entertain and help kids of all ages to learn. There is also a Little Robot AI Chatbot who is trained on Keystages 1-3 in 5 subjects, making it a fun and engaging extra resource for school work!
